St Nicks

Weddings

Thank you for considering St Nicks for your wedding. Below you will find all of the information you need to know as well as an application form.

Procedure

We want to make the lead up to your wedding as easy and as smooth as possible for you. If you are interested in getting married at St Nicks, please complete the application form below. We will then check dates and Clergy availability as well as your eligibility to get married at St Nicks. Once the date is confirmed, we will assign a dedicated member of Clergy who will arrange to meet with you and begin planning your wedding.

Pre-marriage course

We recommend that all couples getting married at St Nicks complete the Marriage preparation course. Find out when the next course is taking place.

Church of England legalities

  • If you are both British nationals and have a qualifying connection to marry at St Nicks, the marriage will usually take place after Banns. Your Banns will be published at St Nicks as well as in the Church of England Parish church in your Parish of residence. We recommend you contacting your Parish churches as soon as possible to make arrangements. Find your Parish church here.

  • If there is no qualifying connection through residence or regular worship at St Nicks, you will need to apply for a Special Licence. Special Licences are not granted automatically and it is important to apply early before final arrangements are made.

  • If you have a qualifying connection to marry at St Nicks but one or both of you is/are not British, but is/are EEA-nationals, then the marriage will take place by Church of England Common Licence. When you are within three months of the marriage date, you will need to apply to a surrogate registrar.

  • If you have a qualifying connection to marry at St Nicks but one or both of you is/are neither British nor EEA nationals, you will need to apply to the civil registrars to give notice of marriage and apply for a Superintendent Registrars Certificate. This will involve you both being in England at the time of application. Please note this may take several weeks.

Planning your wedding

  • Should you like to have worship at your wedding, please get in touch with us to arrange this. Fees for a Worship Leader and additional musicians are detailed on our pricing sheet. In terms of the music for the entrance and exit of the bride/bride and groom, we recommend that you send us Spotify playlist links ready for us to use.

  • St Nicks has its own sound system and a St Nicks Sound Engineer must be used for all services. Fees for a Sound Engineer are detailed on our pricing sheet.

  • Recording of the service is permitted although you will need to arrange for an independent operator with all of their own equipment. Videographers should not come further forward than the last row of seated guests. You may wish to have the service live streamed, if this is the case, please get in touch with us.

  • The bride should arrive a few minutes early if photographs are to be taken before the service to ensure that the service starts on time. Flash photography after the end of the first hymn until after the blessing at the end of the service is not permitted.

  • Church flowers may be organised by your own florist. Please let us know beforehand what your plans are for where the flowers will go in the church. We request that you please do not attach flowers to the church fixtures and walls and require you to provide your own pedestals and vases. Flowers and decorations must be removed from the church immediately after the service.

  • The Clergy member who is marrying you will be able to help with your order of service. We request that you please do not go to print with the service sheets until you have agreed the final order with the Clergy in charge. Worship song lyrics must be included in the service sheets. Please note, printing service sheets is the couple’s responsibility.

  • The balcony area or back of the church can be hired after the service for a small drinks reception or tea. If you are considering this, please get in touch with us to discuss details.

  • Biodegradable confetti is allowed outside of the church however, unfortunately, no confetti, rice or petals are allowed in the church building.

  • Please note that St Nicks does not have any parking spaces. There are several car parks close to the church. We can however, ask for special permission for one or two wedding cars to be parked outside during the service, we’ll just need to know the registration number a couple of weeks before.

  • We like to gather together the bride, groom and all key people (bridesmaids, parents etc.) two days before the ceremony to run through the logistics of the service. For a Saturday wedding this tends to happen on a Thursday afternoon. This is a good opportunity to ask any questions and make sure that everything is in place.

  • Chairs will be set up as two main blocks with a central isle. Please note that special layouts are not possible unless agreed beforehand. The two TV screens at the front of the church cannot be removed. Should you wish to have the curtain open with the painting on display, please get in touch with us.

Planning your order of service

  • Typically, there might be four prayers, focusing on the couple’s new life together. Each prayer should be three or four sentences long, with a clear beginning and ending. Please ask the person(s) praying to write out their prayers so they can be concise and so everything is included.
