TO PLAY OUR PART IN THE EVANGELISATION OF BRISTOL, THE REVITALISATION OF THE CHURCH AND THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE CITY.
Toby and Gill Flint
Our vision for St Nicholas is to be a worshipping community that exists for the benefit of those outside the church and seeks to be generous, adventurous and faithful in all that it does.
We want to build bridges with churches in the city, to work together to bring hope to Bristol.
EVANGELISATION. St Nicholas is the patron saint of, among other things, children and students, and with such a large number of unchurched and de-churched under 30s living in Bristol we want to be a church that reaches out, builds bridges and gives young people a chance to explore the Christian faith for themselves.
CHURCH REVITALISATION. As a plant ourselves, church revitalisation is in our DNA, so we want to be a church that plants churches. In order to do this, we will need to develop a leadership pipeline that allows people to grow and develop in their specific calling, including those called to leadership in the Church of England.
SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION. Inspired by Jesus, St Nicholas was known for his compassion for those on the margins, famously giving gifts to impoverished children and prostitutes and healing the sick. We want to impact the city in long-term, sustainable, measurable ways that feed the hungry, heal the sick, house the homeless and bring hope to those in despair.
WORSHIP & PRAYER. The church has been a place of worship and prayer for over 600 years (the congregation continued to worship in the crypt after the main church was bombed in the war). We want to continue grounding all activity in the church on the foundations of worship and prayer.
COMMERCE, CREATIVITY & COMEDY. Bristol is brimming with creativity, dynamism, and entrepreneurial spirit and we feel called to be a place where these drives are harnessed for the glory of God, and the benefit of others. And we want to have fun doing it!
